What we offer on a school trip
Ingleborough Cave has been impressing, inspiring and astounding visitors since its discovery in 1837, when brave Victorian explorers broke down a limestone barrier that held back a lake, venturing on to discover 1/2km of previously unexplored passages. Today, you can follow in the footsteps of those early pioneers on a journey of exploration and discovery under Ingleborough mountain, one of the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks. Guided tours can cover an impressive range of subjects and topics, as listed below.
The cave is reached through the picturesque Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail. The trail wends its way through 1.23 miles of stunning woodland, before emerging at the imposing entrance to Ingleborough Cave. The trail itself has huge amounts of educational value, and interpretation panels covering geography, geology, history, flora, fauna, nature, upland farming and landscape features are installed along the trail. Accompanied walks can be arranged, and can cover an impressive range of subjects and topics, as listed below.
We are able to offer a range of specially tailored visits to specifically suit your groups requirements. Bespoke tours for all key stages, sixth form and university students feature regularly, and the cave can be used for a range of investigation and data collection exercises.
What makes us a great choice for education
- We run both the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail and Ingleborough Cave. Both are SSSI’s (Sites of Special Scientific Interest), and offer huge educational value.
- Ingleborough Cave itself is one of the finest showcaves in the U.K, and is a part of arguably the most famous cave system in the U.K, culminating at Gaping Gill pothole (just under 100 meters deep).
- We are surrounded by the most impressive limestone scenery in the U.K, and we are able to offer bespoke accompanied walks to visit features of interest. No where else in the country has so many features of educational importance within such close proximity.
- Due to our location and the features we are surrounded by (listed below), we are able to cover a highly impressive range of subjects and topics.
- Our business has been family run for over 50 years, and is highly respected both locally and further afield. We maintain a high rating across all review sites.
- Our education officer is a former teacher, a published author and a local caver and cave diver with unrivalled knowledge on the area.
