Treat your class to a day packed with pioneering technology, unique exhibitions and living history at Beaulieu in the New Forest.

Pupils can immerse themselves in above and below stairs Victorian life at Palace House, which has been home to the Montagu family since 1538. Discover more about the dissolution of the monasteries at Beaulieu Abbey and investigate the covert operations of World War II at the Secret Army Exhibition at Beaulieu.

Educational group visits at Beaulieu stretch far beyond the new themes in the history curriculum, as pupils use their geography skills in offline caching trails and learn how the development of technology has influenced the design of the motor car.

Make science fun by introducing aerodynamics through the awe-inspiring Land Speed Record-breaking vehicles in the multi-media display For Britain and For The Hell Of It. See monster machines including Bluebird CN7, which broke the 400mph barrier with Donald Campbell at the wheel, and the legendary 350hp and 1,000hp Sunbeams which capture the imagination of teachers and pupils alike.

If schools are interested in bringing motoring history to the classroom, Beaulieu also offers a Motoring Loan Box service. The boxes give classes the perfect opportunity to handle original and replica items sourced from the National Motor Museum Collections and can include artefacts, costumes, photos and documents. They serve as excellent prompts for intergenerational work and role playing. Themes covered include Victorians, war years, motoring history and leisure motoring. Boxes are £5 each per half term.

Beaulieu has a dedicated Group Admission Desk for minimum fuss on arrival, and the Education Team will be waiting to meet you.

Beaulieu offers ample free coach parking on site and near to the visitor entrance. There is a drivers? restroom with refreshments and TV facilities. They provide free vouchers for coach drivers, redeemable in the restaurant or gift shop.

Beaulieu can offer combined visits with its sister attraction, Buckler’s Hard. Just three miles from Beaulieu, on the banks of the Beaulieu River, Buckler’s Hard was once a hive of shipbuilding activity, providing ships for Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar. The historic village, its Maritime Museum and historic cottage interiors are the focus for programmes on shipbuilding and 18th century domestic life. The newest addition to the range of interactive Beaulieu visits is Motoring Maths, which gives students the chance to apply numeracy knowledge to everyday objects. Younger children can focus on areas such as shape recognition and measurement, while older pupils tackle mathematical problems using data collection and analysis.

Beaulieu prides itself on working with schools to develop tailor made trips that meet the needs of the teachers and children. Its friendly educational team enjoy spending time with the children to create a memorable day of learning outside of the classroom. As a result, schools return to Beaulieu year after year for their school trips.

Beaulieu has held the Sandford Award continually since 1978. The 2016 review stated Beaulieu offers an amazing variety of historic buildings and museum displays providing a rich learning resource across themes from mediaeval monastic life to World War Two espionage and the history of motor transport. A dedicated learning team provide a similarly varied programme of cross-curricular workshops to engage pupils and support learning in History, English, Maths, Art, Science and Technology.

Each element of the attraction has education programmes to meet the needs of the modern curriculum. All programmes are hosted by friendly, knowledgeable and experienced staff and can be adapted to different age groups, educational needs and or particular interests. Groups must include at least 15 children to qualify for our education programmes.

Beaulieu can cater for larger groups, but the maximum number will very much depend on the programme the school wishes to follow and the length of time they have available.

The Beaulieu Education Team can provide quizzes and trails on a variety of themes or work with the school to tailor them to their requirements.

When a booking has been placed, teachers are invited to make a free preliminary visit to meet the Education Team, plan their visit and carry out necessary risk assessments. These visits must be booked in advance and any accompanying guests are asked to pay the standard admission fee.

Beaulieu offers a generous discount on standard admission fees to school groups, with free entry for adults facilitating the visit.

For some of the living history programmes participants are invited to wear period costume, but this isn?t mandatory and will always be discussed when planning the trip.

As some of the attraction is outdoors participants are asked to dress appropriately for the time of year.

Beaulieu has trained first aid support on site at all times.

The Beaulieu attraction includes the Brabazon Restaurant serving hot and cold food and drinks. Subject to availability, an area of the restaurant can be made available for schools to have a seated packed lunch, or during the warmer months a marquee is available.

There are two shops, one in Palace House and a larger gift shop in the main visitor reception. Beaulieu offers a range of products including pocket money? priced items children may wish to purchase as a souvenir. It is requested that children visit the shops in smaller groups and are supervised by an adult.

Some areas of Beaulieu Abbey and Palace House are restricted due to the historic nature of the buildings, however the Education Team will work with the school to develop an inclusive programme based on their needs.

Beaulieu is open every day from 10am, except Christmas Day.
