What we offer on a school trip
We offer an extensive range of adventure and field studies activities that are linked to the National Curriculum and are independently quality assured.
Our Grade I listed calendar house offers full board accommodation and combines historic charm with modern facilities such as key coded locks, Wi-Fi and separate leaders rooms. We also offer accommodation in our lodges and have an on-call person available at all times when the offices are closed.
Whether you enjoy our adventure, environmental activities, or a mixture of both, all our sessions are carefully reviewed by trained staff to ensure that individuals experience outdoor learning and can take something away from their visit, as well as have a brilliant session/stay. With different package options individually tailored to meet the demands of your group, our outdoor learning opportunities contribute significantly to raising standards and improving student’s personal, social and emotional development.

The school market is our core market and as a Learning Outside the Classroom provider, everything we do looks at how we can contribute to a young person’s physical, personal and social development.

We provide informal opportunities for young people that ignite a sense of achievement and inspiration, helping them reach their full potential, develop character, build resilience and have the opportunity to mature in a unique and unrivalled environment.

What is typically included on our school trips
We have so many activities available on site and split them into 4 different types:
Experience: Abseiling, Archery, Climbing, High ropes (Crate stacking, high all aboard, leap of faith, vertical play plen), Kayaking and Sit on top kayak, Mountain biking, Paddle boarding, Raft building, Tree climbing, Tree Top Trail and Zip Wire.
Learn: Animal tracks, Art in the environment, Bushcraft, Challenge course, Discovery walk, Icebreakers, Low ropes, Minibeasts, Navigation, Pedalo, Pioneering, Pond dipping, Problem solving, Shelter building and Trustwalk.
Develop: Adventure trail, Bottle rockets, Campfire, Disco, Egg drop, Geocaching, Night orienteering, Night walk and Orienteering.
Self guided activities: Access to the New Forest National Park, Adventure trail, Art in the environment, Bike hire and trails, Campfire, Geocaching, Orienteering, Off-site walks and Outdoor sports or courts.
Group Sizes Catered For
We can cater for many different group sizes from 20 people yp to 100. We care about the quality of the food that we serve and our chefs are committed to offering choice at every meal. Staying in our main house will mean that you will get full board catering, so that you can sit back and relax as your groups needs are catered for.
Enjoy three cooked meals with a hot cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner to help you refuel with salad and fruit available at every meal as well as tea and coffee at hand, throughout your stay.
We can cater to most dietary requirements. Allergens are listed for each meal, so please speak to our staff team prior to your visit to ensure we have the right menu choices throughout your stay.
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
Yes, we would encourage guests to record their experiences, but would ask that any pictures, video or audio be taken of their own group or the site.

A fire drill is included for all school visits on arrival day.

First Aid Information
All of our activity staff and a large proportion of our office based staff are first aid qualified so there will always be someone on site to deal with any first aid incidents. We also have an on call person available at any time throughout your stay. Should you wish to take part in any self-led activities, or will be doing any off site visits or trips, we would advise that you bring a first aid qualified leader with you.
Available Facilities
We have a range of facilities and service available on site to ensure you have a great stay with us. Depending on your accommodation choice, we have different availability in the main house, with a dining area, large hall, library and drawing room. We can provide part board, full board or self-catering accommodation (dependent on package.) alternatively we do have the facilities for you to eat a packed lunch. We have our training room and strawbale classroom available as an additional meeting area and a large marquee for teaching and socializing. If you are staying in the main house, we do offer FREE Wi-Fi for internet access.
There is a small shop in the reception area so children can get snacks and small gifts to take home with them. We also provide Avon Tyrrell T-shirts and Hoodies which we can provide as part of a package deal should you wish to order them in bulk.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities
Avon Tyrrell is a fully accessible site with adapted facilities and specialised equipment, to ensure all guests have the same opportunities. The main house has wide access doors, wheelchair ramps and a lift and we have additional equipment including shower trolleys and hoists.
An accessible pathway leads down to the lake where our Boathouse holds a disabled wet room and toilet facility. Hoists can be fitted at the lake and extra harnessing equipment is available for the at height activities. We also have a range of all-terrain wheelchairs and inclusion bikes for easy access around the site.

Having run a number of weekends specifically for the disability community, we have the knowledge and expertise to work with a variety of disabilities and give everyone the same opportunities to experience, learn and develop.

Avon Tyrrell is located in Bransgore in the New Forest National Park making it the ideal centre for learning outside the classroom. With local towns and villages and a landscape of forest, Avon Tyrrell is a great base to explore and to study in line with topics linked to the National Curriculum.

Room Sizes and Facilities
Our grade I listed house can accommodate up to 110, and our lodges, ranging from 6-14 berth can accommodate up to 62 people. Each booking is dealt with individually, and we can provide for all age groups and budgets.
