A Planetarium school visit typically entails stepping out of the classroom and into a dome shaped theatre to experience the viewing of interesting educational astronomical and science shows. Offering children and youths of all abilities an exciting opportunity to learn about science and things they may not have known existed in a visual & practical manner. Planetarium workshops and shows benefit both younger and older children through exposure to experiences that cannot be replicated in a classroom and often inspires them to increase their understanding because they can contextualise curriculum related topics. Skills for observation and comprehension for a person’s surroundings can be gained and are essential tools for lifelong learning through awakening curiosity and leading to inquiry. Planetarium school trips are appropriate for all Key stage 1, 2, 3 & 4 level pupils’, however, may especially assist with GCSE Astronomy, general environmental science, and Physics at GCSE level. What a person learns will depend on the Planetarium visited and the shows that are offered, so take a look at our listed venues to discover how your trip can be made more relevant through a planned trip.
