What are your school workshops like
At ReachOut Educate we pride ourselves on delivering living history workshops in schools and have been awarded the Quality Badge from the Council of Learning Outside the Classroom. In our sessions students can explore the daily lives of Romans, Tudors, Vikings and many more!
- What did they eat?
- What did they wear?
- What games did they play?
We can adapt our workshops to be delivered in assembly, half day or full day sessions. If there is a specific element, historical figure or time period that needs to be focused on, just let us know! No workshop is ever the same as we aim to cater to the schools individual needs. We are a Midlands/Shropshire based company and our enthusiastic practitioners travel all around the country to bring fun and engaging days for the children!
What type of Curriculum/Keystage Workshops do you cover
ReachOut Educate offers a wide range of educational in-school workshops that cover a variety of subjects with our most popular being our immersive history workshops. Our historical topics include The Stone Age (KS1 Special), Roman Britain, Anglo-Saxons, The Vikings, Middle-Ages, The Tudors (Kings,Queens & Castles being the KS1 version) and many more! We also offer Lightening Sessions (shorter workshops) to schools within the West Midlands on The Great Fire of London,The Victorians and World War 2.
We pride ourselves on delivering interactive heritage workshops in a fun and engaging way that brings history to life for both students and teachers! We bring a mix of replica and real artefacts so that each child can have the opportunity to handle and try out items that would have been very common in the past. We pair our mini-museum with various drama style games and creative activities to enhance learning in an active way. Don’t expect to be sitting down for long when we visit!
Alongside promoting our living history workshops, we also offer workshops focusing on Musical Theatre, storytelling and teamwork through the use of drama games. As members of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, we are pleased to offer an Anti-Bullying Assembly & accompanying workshops that prove popular during November for Anti-Bullying Week; these are also open for booking all year round. We spread the important messages in this, sometimes difficult, topic in a different way than standing at the front of an assembly hall and simply talking to the children through a presentation. The inclusion of interactive elements and games into our sessions encourages children to learn and gain a greater understanding of what the Anti Bullying Alliance represents without being stereotypically ‘lectured’ about being kind to each other.
We understand that not every school is the same and we don’t work to a ‘one size fits all’. If you would like to adapt one of our existing workshops or are after something you can’t currently see on our website, just let us know!
What makes us a great choice for education
We cover history sessions on The Romans, Vikings, Saxons, The Tudors, Kings, Queens & Castles (KS1) and the Middle-Ages.
A typical session would include a welcome, small ‘’Speed Story’’ performance, looking at artifacts and playing games.
We also do Lightening Sessions on The Great Fire of London, Victorians, Florence Nightingale etc. These are 1 hour and ½ workshops that focus on using imagination and play to learn the stories behind the famous figures and events.
Areas Visited
Our company HQ is based in Bridgnorth, Shropshire in the West Midlands and we have a team of enthusiastic actors who travel up and down the country delivering a wide range of exciting workshops! We currently do not visit schools which are located in rural Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man. Please note that schools located in Central London may face an added fee to cover Clean Air Charges and accommodation costs.
Accreditation and Awards
We have been awarded the Quality Badge by the Council of Learning Outside the Classroom and we are a proud Associate Member of the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
What is typically included on our school trips
All our workshops are adaptable and we are very flexible with how we deliver our sessions depending on the needs of the school. A standard workshop includes 2 history practitioners to host the sessions, a mini-museum of era related artefacts and weapons, an interactive history timeline, topic related activities/games & coin striking. There are also opportunities to add on extra activities in some of our workshops and all students get to keep the coin they have helped make during the session.
Group Sizes Catered For
Group sizes will depend on the time frame and space available, we are very flexible and can create bespoke programmes for small class sizes right up to a full school approach. We usually suggest a class of 30 students per workshop and the session lasting 1.5 hours; this allows them to ask any questions they have and use all the equipment we bring without feeling rushed.
Materials, Resources & Information Provided
When booking with us we provide all of the materials needed to conduct our workshop sessions, this includes any paper, crayons or ink used for activities. The students can keep any item that they have made (coins, drawings/letters) during the workshop to take home with them; this is also included in the cost. We only ask for the use of a few tables so that we can set up our displays and activities.
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
Teachers/class assistants can take as many photos & videos as they wish.
Pricing Information
Prices can vary depending on school location and travel time as we are based in the West Midlands.
A full school day workshop starts from £560+VAT.
A half day morning or afternoon workshop starts from £350+VAT.
Lightening Sessions & other bespoke workshops start from £195+VAT. Please note that these are location dependent and mainly take place in and around the West Midlands.
Clothing Requirements
School Uniform is fine. Dressing up in costume is always encouraged by us!
First Aid Information
Some of our practitioners are First Aid trained, but they should never be in a situation where a staff member from the school is not with the students.
Testimonials
All testimonials can be seen on our social media pages and also at www.medievaldays.com
Other Information
Due to the heavy nature of some of the equipment that we bring with us to schools – we do kindly ask that, if possible, we have a parking space that is accessible and near to the entrance to where we need to set up. We know that this is not always possible, but it is always greatly appreciated.
Location Information
We travel across the country upon booking. We don’t currently take bookings for Scotland, Ireland or parts of rural Wales.
